Here is how you can remove mildew from outdoor cushions.
Dry them out
When you spot mildew on your cushions, the first step you should take is to thoroughly dry them, as cleaning them whilst wet will only make the fungus worse. The wetter the conditions are, the more the mildew will grow.
Bring them indoors and situate them in an area that’s warm, such as by a stove or radiator – you can also hang them on a rail or prop them up on a plant stand. If the weather is bright and warm, you can also dry the cushions out by airing them in the sun, which will also be better for keeping the musky smell out of your home.
Use acidic substances to remove the fungus
When your cushions are fully dry, you can treat the mildew growth by spraying the surfaces with full-strength vinegar and scrubbing gently with a soft cloth or sponge. This will kill off the fungus and remove any excess that has grown heavily on the cushion cover.
If you would rather use a less smelly variant, you can make a paste out of salt, lemon and water, rubbing it over the mildew patches in the same way you would the vinegar.
