How To Measure For Custom Outdoor Cushions

The main thing to consider when measuring for new cushions is to measure the furniture the cushions are to go on, and not existing cushions. Over time, fabric stretches and loses shape therefore if we take measurements from your existing cushions, your new ones may not fit as perfectly as you would like. We will go through this with you when you place your order so we understand your requirements exactly.

Need help measuring for new custom outdoor cushions? We may be able to do a home visit in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth where we will help you measure your furniture for new cushions and also bring samples of fabrics and foam to help you decide what is best for you.

How to measure for Daybed, Bench, Seat, Window Seat and Lounge Custom Outdoor Cushions.

  1. Measure the length of the cushion area in millimetres rounded to nearest 5mm. This is the side where we will place a concealed zip.
  2. Measure the width of the cushion area in milliimetres rounded to nearest 5mm.
  3. Decide on what thickness you would like. Most cushions range from 50mm to 100mm.

Please note: if you are measuring the furniture for a backrest cushion, subtract the thickness of the seat cushion from the height of the back cushion. Most cushions are wrapped in dacron and therefore have an extra initial thickness of 30mm.

How To Create A Cushion Template

When you order a cushion that is a unique shape, we will most likely need a template to ensure we make your new cushions to the exact shape of the furniture it will fit on.

  1. Lay a piece of paper ( butchers paper or gift wrapping paper works well ) or cloth over the seat part of the chair where the cushion would sit. Make sure to press the paper down so it fits into the cushion space snugly.
  2. Draw around the outside edge of the seat where you would like the edge of the cushion to be and cut out.
  3. Your new cushion will be made exactly to your shape and measurements, so please double check the shape is correct.
  4. Please mark you cushion with your name and order number, which is the front and which is the back, also please mark where the zip should start and finish and if you have ordered ties, where they should be placed.
  5. If you have multiple custom templates to send in, please number them 1, 2, 3…etc in accordance with your order.
  6. Please do not send cushion covers to use as templates.
  7. Your template can be folded for inexpensive postage, then sent to our factory direct.
